Life can be very stressful. I know all of you have been stressed at one point or another. I often find myself getting stressed about the smallest things. I am trying to learn to relax a little more and take things one step at a time.
One problem I have is that my mind is always spinning with “what ifs.”
The “what ifs” only make things more stressful and confusing.
For the first time in my life, I don’t know what my future is going to be like. I have always known that I would be going to school next. I may not have known where or what I’d be doing at school, but I always knew that I would be going to school.
Now that I have graduated, life is a little different. While I was searching for a job, I had a new plan for what I was going to do almost every day. Sometimes my plan would change about every ten minutes.
And let me tell you… It was stressful.
I didn’t know where I was going to be, what I was going to be doing, if I was ever going to get a job, and so on…
I finally landed a three-month assistantship in Flordia. I had about two days to move across the country. I had only been to Florida once for a wedding. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I was completely overwhelmed.
Luckily I have an uncle who lives in Florida, so I stayed with him while I tried to figure out my living situation.
That’s another story… but moving to Florida and starting a new job was definitely stressful. I made it worse by not doing what helps the most when I’m stressed.
The best thing I can do while I’m stressed is exercise. I need to exercise consistently. That is definitely my stress relief. I feel so much better when I exercise. I feel better about myself, and when I’m exercising I get to take a break and do something that I love while not thinking about everything else going on.
I do, however, find myself thinking about my life and stressors when I go for a long run, but it still helps me calm down and relax. If I am stressed and go for a run, my mind starts to spin and so many ideas and thoughts pop into my mind.
Although this may sound like it would make me more stressed, by the time I finish my run, I usually have a better understanding of what is going on, which makes me more relaxed.
Another thing that helps me when I’m stressed is eating healthy. I feel so much better when I am taking care of myself by watching my eating habits.
Sometimes when I’m stressed, I have the urge to eat unhealthily or stress eat and eat too much. This only makes everything worse.
When I live a healthy and active lifestyle, I feel so much better. It definitely makes me feel better in stressful situations.
If you ever are stressed, I encourage you to try and find something that makes you feel better. Even going for a short walk can help.
