I was never prepared for life after college. I worked so hard my entire life so that I could have a full-time job after I graduated. I had multiple internships and worked incredibly hard in school. I thought that I would easily get a full-time job once I graduated.
While I was in college, I was determined to get a full-time job straight after graduation. I started to ignore my passion for traveling and only thought about finding a full-time job. This changed when my roommates and I took a trip to Oahu, Hawaii.
It was our last spring break, so we decided to spend it on Oahu. We ended up staying at a hostel and it was by far one of the best experiences of my life.
I have always loved traveling and meeting people from around the world. My favorite trips have always been the trips where I got to meet new people and learn about different cultures.
Staying in a hostel allowed me to meet people from all around the world. It made me realized something… I love to travel.
I always knew that I loved to travel, but I never fully realized how happy it made me. I also never fully realized that it is an option to travel after graduating.
My friend and I then decided that we were going to travel after we graduated. We had a plan to travel around Southeast Asia and Australia. We then would head to New Zealand and work abroad for a year.
Things unfortunately changed and I was left to reconsider what I was doing after graduation. I was timid to travel by myself, and I wanted to make the most logical decision (especially financially), so I was then determined, once again, to find a full-time job.
I was having the hardest time finding a job. Even though I worked so hard to gain experience while in college, I still couldn’t seem to land a full-time job.
Throughout the whole process, I kept coming back to the idea of traveling. I really wanted to spend quality time traveling around Australia and New Zealand. One day I was determined to travel and the next I would be determined to find a full-time job.
I then realized that I need to take things one step at a time. I need to not worry too much about my future and worry about enjoying the present.
I have a few opportunities to gain professional experience while being in Oahu. I have decided to pursue these opportunities. I am trying to not think so hard about the future and to take things one step at a time.
What do I need to do right now? Buy a ticket to Oahu.
Maybe I will go from Oahu to Australia and New Zealand. Maybe I will land a full-time job. Maybe something else will happen.
I don’t know what the future holds right now and I am learning that that is okay.
I am excited about my journey and can’t wait to share it with you all. I need to step out of my comfort zone and not plan everything ahead of time. Yes, I want to be smart and safe, but I need to take things one step at a time.
I know that this journey will challenge me in ways that I’ve never been challenged before. There will be ups and downs for sure, but I couldn’t be more excited.
(Also… I am posting this on the first game day of the season for Oregon Football…. So… GO DUCKS!!)
